Eric Lambert: Press
Sometimes music flows from the CD to the heart and the effect is timeless. Eric Lambert’s guitar and mandolin music take the instruments into carefully crafted tapestries of sound. While the songs are mostly instrumentals, each one stands on its own with melodies that leave little dancing notes in your head. “Green” has a lovely Celtic lilt, and “Doin’ Alright” is a great vocal to sing along and pack with you on a gloomy day. “Leaves” is a gentle, flowing guitar piece with melodic passages that bring images of the great outdoors. His version of “Red Haired Boy” has great depth and melodic variations that jam session players would be happy to imitate. Eric has managed to make the recording immediate and intimate and the listener feels like the concert is presented right in the living room.
I had a really nice time (at The Grind) and am looking forward to seeing you both again. I actually loaned the album...er...CD I bought at the Grind to a friend of mine who decided to keep it. I think it's easier for me to just buy another. By the way, the CD is really great, too.
Take care and best of luck, Jim

First of all, thank you for the great CD! The music is just what I thought it would be, and we've listened to the CD several times already. It always brings a smile to my face.

I have been listening to your CD pretty much constantly ever since you sent it my way. It is such a pleasant mix of acoustic "Dawg-like" treatments of melodies, and the vocal selections are uplifting......I come away whistling and humming the tunes for the rest of my day ahead!

Amazing, enchanting music. Doin' Alright is a masterpiece, Eric Lambert. Ten of twelve pieces are instrumental -- and I loved it! And that's coming from a wordsmith.

Stopped by the Bone Dry to say thanks! I love your CD. Chris sang your song Doin' Alright to me and it made me cry. He said that's our wedding song. We will never forget how special you made our day!!
Thanks sooooo very much

On Friday I received list member Eric Lambert's latest CD, " Doin' Alright. This is a guitar album, an acoustic guitarist's guitar album. Flatpicking guitar, but no run of the mill bluegrass effort. I don't know what "genre" this really fits into, it is just great music -- that's the genre. First off there's the guitar playing -- superb. I can't play this well in my dreams, he's really playing that good on this CD. I would just love to be the master of my instrument that Eric demonstrates on this CD.Seemingly effortless playing, total mastery of tone, technical execution, and that special "touch", making the guitar express what can't be said in words. Sublime expression musically that resonates deeply in the inner workings of the human soul. And that's doubly important in this collection. There are only two songs on this CD, two wonderful songs, and ten superb instrumental pieces. The composing is terrific, the playing on both guitar and mandolin is terrific.Best of all is the arranging and mix -- again close to perfection are the only words I can come up that are accurate. Every instrumental part is woven together in a wonderful tapestry of contrast and support. The two songs are first rate. The title track is really an outstanding song, and Cumberland Blues is a cute witty song that I also like very much. As great as these songs are, it is the instrumental pieces that really blow me away. Ten instrumental pieces that captivate and hold you, that envelope every second. The perfect mix of tempo, style and dynamics. Without vocals to hang your hat on, to do that for 10 tracks, all of them gems. I am amazed and inspired. You gotta check out this CD. Congratulations Eric. This is a truly outstanding CD.

Dear Eric
I just got finished listening to your new CD. I just popped it into the CD changer in my car...waiting to hear what I thought was just a demo CD for me to use to help book gigs in this area. I was VERY surprised
(after talking with Dan) to find out you have a new CD. I called Dan,
Doug, Leslie and said.."Do you know how "blanking" good this Eric
Lambert CD is???!!!! Anyway, just want you to know i'm wearing it out in my CD player because it is my new favorite CD. I think you will find plenty of people interested in buying a few at Larry Fest and at the gig
in June

Eric, I am extremely inspired by your latest release. Your performance on each of the works has shown that the years of live performance, hard work, love of music, and wood shedding, have settled in your heart and can now be expressed in a way that communicates to a listener’s soul. I am sure many will hear and experience this CD as positively as I have. Keep up the great work and continue to inspire fellow pickers as you have done with me.

Eric, We love your new CD, Doin' Alright! All the songs are amazing, and we listen to them again and again - and we've had the CD for two months now! Linda says its title track, "…is something we should be hearing on the radio." Mike wants a Doin' Alright ring tone for his phone, "…so every time someone calls, I'll be instantly reminded, 'I am doin' alright!'". And Jerry says, "Ricky Skaggs should be singing Doin' Alright!" Indeed And did we mention how much we love the other twelve songs? Green, Pretty, Coon Valley, Cumberland, Time is, Scott's Rag, Red Haired… We just put the player on "Random" and listen to them all, over and over and over. Congratulations on a very fine CD, and thank you for bringing such wonderful music into our lives.

Looking forward to your myspace sight...PS my son let a buddy borrow my guitar I'll have to wait on the lesson. Thanks for sharing your gift with the simple masses.

Eric, The family and I were tappin' our toes over 4th of July weekend. Nice to hear crisp, clean strings that don't have to fight to be heard over bar noise. Great arrangements and fantastic mixing. Sounds like a 4 or 5 pc. band at times. Such efficient playing, you forget there's no percussion! I'll email you a more detailed review when I can find the words. Thank you.
Bill Wichert - Schererville IN (Jul 9, 2006)
